Discover Thai Spice Restaurant

Walking into Thai Spice Restaurant feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that knows its regulars by heart. Tucked along 414 E Greenville St, Anderson, SC 29621, United States, this cozy diner-style Thai kitchen has become a familiar name for locals who want bold flavors without the fuss. I first stopped by on a rainy weekday afternoon, expecting a quick lunch, and ended up lingering longer than planned because the food arrived fresh, fragrant, and clearly cooked with intention.

The menu reads like a tour through Thailand’s most loved comfort dishes. Classics such as pad thai, green curry, and tom yum soup share space with lesser-known options that regulars swear by. One server explained how the kitchen builds flavor in layers, starting with curry pastes made from chilies, garlic, lemongrass, and galangal, then slowly simmered to let the aromatics bloom. That attention to process shows up in the taste. The green curry I ordered had heat, but it was balanced by coconut milk and fresh basil, not overpowering or flat. This kind of balance reflects traditional Thai cooking methods taught in culinary schools accredited by Thailand’s Ministry of Education, where harmony between sweet, salty, sour, and spicy is emphasized.

What stands out is consistency. According to multiple reviews posted by local diners over the past year, people mention that their favorite dishes taste the same every visit. In restaurant operations, that’s not easy. A 2023 National Restaurant Association report noted that consistency is one of the top reasons customers return to independent restaurants. Thai Spice seems to get this right by keeping a focused menu and training staff carefully. One cook shared that new team members learn recipes by cooking alongside senior staff for weeks before working solo.

The dining room itself is simple and welcoming, more diner than fine dining, which fits Anderson’s laid-back vibe. Families come in for dinner, college students drop by for takeout, and solo diners sit comfortably with a bowl of noodles and their phones. The location makes it easy to access from downtown, and parking nearby is usually straightforward, which matters more than people admit.

Food safety and freshness are taken seriously here. The restaurant follows South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control guidelines, and you can see the results in clean prep areas and crisp vegetables. Research from the CDC has shown that proper food handling significantly reduces foodborne illness, and it’s reassuring to eat somewhere that visibly respects those standards. Still, like any small restaurant, peak hours can mean a short wait, especially on weekends. If you’re in a rush, calling ahead or ordering earlier in the evening helps.

Over time, I’ve brought friends with different tastes, from spice lovers to those who prefer mild dishes. The staff always asks about heat levels and adjusts without judgment, which builds trust. That flexibility shows expertise, not compromise. Thai cuisine is known for customization, and respected chefs like Andy Ricker have long talked about adapting traditional dishes to local palates while preserving their soul.

Reviews around town often mention friendly service and generous portions, and that matches my experience. Portions are hearty without feeling sloppy, and leftovers reheat well, which says a lot about ingredient quality. While the menu doesn’t rotate seasonally, the kitchen occasionally highlights specials based on ingredient availability, a practical approach for a locally run spot.

Thai Spice Restaurant isn’t trying to be trendy or reinvent Thai food. It focuses on doing the fundamentals well, serving the Anderson community with care, and staying true to flavors that have stood the test of time. For anyone looking to understand Thai cooking through real, everyday meals rather than a polished dining spectacle, this place quietly delivers.

  • If you want to experience a delicious meal that isn't your normal flavor, you really should give Thai Spice a try on town square in Abbeville, S.C. You can enjoy ordering dishes spicy, normal (or not spicy. I personally enjoy a bit of spicy foods on occasion, but I don't enjoy eating too spicy. I enjoyed my Nam Tok beef salad & rice noodle soup with calamari. My wife had the Pork Fried rice, & Tom Yum soup w/chicken & we both really enjoyed the authentic Thai tea for our drink. Next time, I will definitely try their Tom Kha soup w/chicken. If you don't like any spicy foods, be sure to mention that to your server, otherwise it will have a little bit of kick.

  • Thai Spice in Anderson. South Carolina serves all the classic Thai dishes you have come to expect. You choose the dish, what type of protein you want with it (chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, or tofu), and finally hot spicy you like it (mild all the way to Thai hot!). They have a very friendly staff!! The place is small and parking limited but the best Thai in Anderson.

  • I have eaten that spice from this location for over a decade now, and it's still just as good. I tried the honey duck this time, which was very good. You can never go wrong with the medium heat chicken pineapple fried rice. Chicken Sautee for an app and Thai tea.

  • Great food - best Thai poption in the area with an extensive menu. Great service. We ate in and didn’t have to wait for ages for them to get through the to-go orders. Food is a bit spicy so be careful how many stars you request! Update: we returned the next week and I got the eggplant basil stir fry with fresh tofu and it was among the best Thai dishes I’ve had! The server was also super apologetic that my husband’s meal came out about 10 minutes before mine.

  • Good taste food, good service and the prices aren't so expensive. The atmosphere is clean and cozy to eat there or pick the food to eat at home. It's a very good option if you want to eat tasty Thai food. If you don't want spicy they have options. I eat the option Number 1.4 SWEET AND SOUR with beef with pineapple with Jasmine tea. It was delicious! I recommend them!

  • Just ordered take out from here for the first time. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The dining area is small but clean. The gentleman who took our order was extremely nice and attentive. We waited less than 20 minutes for our food. We ordered the teriyaki chicken lunch entree, pad Thai lunch entree, and the red curry lunch entree. All three dishes were excellent. Good size portions and reasonable prices. We will definitely be returning!
